Gleinicke Bridge. Situated at the extreme south west end of the old West Berlin this bridge was made famous during the cold war, becoming the traditional place for east-west exchanges of spies.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

View down the Kurfürsten Damm towards the Kaiser Wilhelm Gedächtniskirshe. It was built in n1895 to commemorate the founder of the German Empire. Berliners nowadays call it the 'hollow tooth', referring to the western spire damaged by the Allied bombardments in 1943.

 

 

 

 

 Olympia-Stadion. Built for the famous 1936 Olympic Games.

 

 

 

 

 The Reichstag, constructed in 1894 by the architect Paul Wallot. The words 'Dem Deutschen Volk' ( to the german people) visible on the façade were added in 1916. The building was destroyed by a criminal fire in early 1933 just after Hitler came to power.In April 1945 the russian army raised the soviet flag over the ruined building.Restoration of the building was completed in 1971.
