Ghada Amer is a painter from Egypt.
Using stretched canvas, Amer embroiders colored threads,
using images taken from pornographic magazines
but fragmenting and multiplying them so that they become obscured,
but never entirely effaced.
While her works on canvas are engaged in a critique of the male gaze,
Amer encourages the re-evaluation of traditional women's craft skills
similar to a comparison with "high-art" practices such as painting
