Barbarella Movie Memory Lane ![]() We welcome all those who contributed to making this movie to share their memories. |
Hank Aberle, a member of the Glitterhouse writes about the contribution that the he made as a Glitterhouse member to the movie soundtrack:
My name is Hank Aberle and I was a member of
the Glitterhouse and sang
on the soundtrack to the movie. I would be happy
to answer any
questions you might have about that experience.
I would be happy to recall my experiences with
the Glitterhouse in relation
to Barbarella. At the time we were under contract
with Bob Crewe as a
performing and recording band, and actually we
were offered the choice to
work on one of two movies, the other which we
rejected by the advice of our
manager Marty Erlichman, was an early movie by
Brian DePalma called
"Greetings". The music was actually
composed by Charles Fox with three
members of the Glitterhouse helping with the vocal
arangements; myself,
Mike Gale the lead singer and main songwriter of
the group, and Al Lax. By
the way, the other members of the group were Moogy
Klingman of Utopia fame,
and Joel "Bishop" O'Brien of Flying
Machine fame as well as many Carol King
recordings. The Barbarella soundtrack was recorded
at A&R Studios in NYC,
engineered by Tony May and produced by Bob Crewe.
I can recall that Bernard
"Pretty" Purdie was on drums and Vinnie
Bell with his many guitar
inventions. At the last minute Bob Crewe actually
substituted his voice
with Mike Gale's on "The Angel Is Love".
Bob
Gruen was our friend, roomate and
photographer but he didn't do the
Glitterhouse album cover. That was taken by some
well known album cover
photographer of the time who's name escapes me.

Trivia: The Black Queen's voice was dubbed by
the same woman (name?) who
did the PA announcements on the cult classic TV
show "The Prisoner".
