God, History, and Dialectic: The Theological Foundations of the Two Europes and their Cultural Consequences:

4 volume electronic edition

First given as an honors seminar in philosophy for the University of Oklahoma's Classics and Letters Program in Tulsa, Oklahoma, God, History, and Dialectic has proven to be a popular subject among Orthodox and non-Orthodox alike.  In July 1997, His Dr. Farrell was invited to give a two week seminar version of his University of Oklahoma lectures at the Monastery of St. Nektarios the Great in Brimfield, Massachusetts.

A different presentation of this fascinating material for non-Orthodox but traditional Anglicans of the Continuing Anglican Tradition was presented as prt of the Capt. Syndey Helliwell Memorial Lectures at the Traditional Anglican Theological Seminary.  Dr. Farrell speaks candidly and frankly about the on-going moral, legal, and philosophical crisis within Western culture that has been brought about by the Augustinian theology.

The Theological and Polemical Works of St. Maximus the Confessor:
Annotated and Translated from the Greek with an Introduction by Dr. Joseph P. Farrell

These crucial texts are “perhaps more important now than when St. Maximus first wrote them,” for they exhibit the inherent contradictions manifest in the contemporary ecumenical drive for reunion with the co-called “Oriental Orthodox”.  Speaking directly and forcefully to the implications of the Dogmatic Decree of the Fourth Oecumenical Council of Chalcedon, St. Maximus makes it clear that compromise with Monophysitism is impossible.

A Course in Patristics: Part One: The Apostolic Fathers to Nicea

A Course in Patristics: Part Two: From Nicea to the Eve of Chalcedon

A Course in Patristics: Part Three: Chalcedon And Its Aftermath to the Great Schism

Originally delivered over three semesters at St. Tikhon's Orthodox Theological Seminary. An intensive introduction to the thought of the Fathers of the Church from an Orthodox understanding that takes the reader step by step through the evolution of the major heresies as well as the necessary theological method the Fathers presupposed in order to refute them.

Dr. Joseph P. Farrell received his B.A. (cum laude) in Biblical Studies and Philosophy from John Brown University in 1979.  He was awarded an M.A. in Theological and Historical Studies from Oral Roberts University in 1983 and his doctorate from the University of Oxford in 1987, where he studied with Bishop KALLISTOS (Ware). His master's and doctor's dissertations, An Introduction and Translation of St. Photios' Mystagogy and Free Choice in St. Maximus the Confessor, were subsequently published and have become standards in the field. From 1989-1991 he was Associate Professor of Dogmatics and Patristics at St. Tikhon's Orthodox Theological Seminary in South Canaan, Pennsylvania, and from 1991 has been adjunct Professor of History for Langston University, and adjunct Professor of Philosophy for the University of Oklahoma at the University Center at Tulsa.
