CONGRESS AIMS

A large number of plant species have been widely used as remedies in traditional medicine. A very large diversity exists in the origin, the method of use and in the active principles of these plants. Nowadays, an increasing attention to traditional medicine as a valuable source for new drugs is beginning to emerge among many research teams in the world. African flora still constitutes a rich source of new pharmacological compounds. The pharmacological basis of the African medicinal plants should be investigated and the traditional pharmacopoeia should be established in the future for a rational use.

The aims of the meeting are:

The valorisation of African medicinal plants.

To promote international and continental cooperation in the field of research in medicinal plants, particularly in the areas of  Botany, Phytochemistry, and Pharmacology.

To emphasize the importance of collecting and systemizing traditional knowledge related to medicinal plants.

To contribute towards the establishment of multi-disciplinary networks concerning the development of the exchange of knowledge in this field.

The scientific Program will include Plenary Sessions, Oral Communications, Poster Sessions, and Round Table Discussions on the following themes:

  1. Evaluation of the resources of African medicinal plants.

  2. Extraction and characterization of natural substances.

  3. Biological and pharmacological activities of natural substances.
