Des associations françaises ou francophones se sont regroupées pour préparer la «Commémoration du 100ème anniversaire de la mort d'Auguste Bartholdi», le sculpteur de la Statue de la Liberté né à Colmar en Alsace (France) en 1834 et décédé le 4 octobre 1904 à Paris.
Cette commémoration a eu lieu le 3 octobre aux pieds de la Statue de la liberté !
Les associations françaises/francophones ont par ce biais rendu hommage à l'oeuvre et à son sculpteur, mais également au symbole de ce don de la France aux Etats-Unis. Cette commémoration sera également l'occasion de célébrer l'amitié indéfectible entre les Etats Unis et la France.

Programme du dimanche 3 octobre 2004

*10 heures 30 : Départ en bateau pour « Liberty Island » à Battery Park

*11 heures 30 : Discours de personnalités françaises et américaines ;
Lecture d'une proclamation de la Ville de New York, suivie des interventions de :
Monsieur Joseph O’Neill, Maire de Princeton, jumelée à Colmar ;
Monsieur Adrien Zeller, Président du Conseil régional d’Alsace, ancien Ministre ;
Mme Bénédicte CONTAMIN, Consule Générale Adjointe de France ;
Monsieur Richard Riehm, Maire adjoint de Colmar, Ville de naissance de Bartholdi et de sa Statue et représentant du Comité de Jumelage Colmar-Princeton ;
Monsieur François Brunagel, Président de l’Union internationale des Alsaciens dont les membres sont présents dans 110 pays ;

* Présentation d’un concours scolaire organisé par l'American Association of Teachers of French/Metropolitan Chapter NY (AATF), sur le thème de la Statue de la Liberté en 2001. Ce prix récompense les participants d'un concours célébrant la Statue de la Liberté et Bartholdi, organisé par l'ATTF, le Service culturel de l'Ambassade de France et le Musée Bartholdi de Colmar. Il sera remis à Cynthia Ramirez représentant les gagnants du concours ;

* Présentation par la Monnaie de Paris d’un programme de pièces de collection pour commémorer le 100ème anniversaire de la mort de Bartholdi ;

* Programme musical avec la participation du Trio de Tarytown, de la chanteuse Cristina Necula et du Bariton Michael Chipman

* Exposition en plein air sur Frédéric Auguste Bartholdi organisée par le National Park Service dans le cadre de ce 100ème anniversaire ;

* Buffet sur Liberty Island ;

* Visite de la Statue de la Liberté. Les participants sont libres de quitter la manifestation à leur loisir en prenant un des bateaux qui effectuent les liaisons entre Manhattan, Liberty Island et Ellis Island.

Pour information nous vous invitons à visiter le site de l'inauguration de la Statue de la Liberté à Colmar. La Ville natale d'Auguste Bartholdi et de la Statue de la liberté a voulu marquer le 100ème anniversaire de cette commémoration sous la présidence de Bernadette Chirac par l'inauguration d'une réplique de 12 mètres de la Statue de la Liberté. Cette réplique est ainsi la plus grande au monde.

Several French-American and French speaking organizations organized the “Commemoration of the Centenary of the death of Auguste Bartholdi, sculptor of the Statue of Liberty who was born in Colmar-Alsace (France) in 1834”
This commemoration took place on Liberty Island, Sunday October 3rd 2004.

The French/American/French-speaking organizations have provided an excellent opportunity to celebrate the long-standing relationship between our countries, and to honour the artist and the symbol of this gift from France to the United States. Over 600 people were gathered on Liberty Island in 1986, for the 100th anniversary of the Statue.



Programme:

* 10 : 30 : Ferry departs at Battery Park for Liberty Island;

* 11 : 30 - Speeches of French and US dignitaries with Music tributes. Reading of a Proclamation from the City of NY followed by speeches of :
M. Joseph O’Neill, Mayor of Princeton
M. Adrien Zeller, President of The Regional Council of Alsace, former Secretary of State
Ms. Bénédicte CONTAMIN, Consule Générale Adjointe France
M. Richard Riehm, Deputy-Mayor of Colmar, birthplace of Bartholdi and his Statue, and representative of the Colmar-Princeton twinning
The representative of The National Park Service
M. François Brunagel, President of The International Union of Alsatians which is represented in 110 countries

* Presentation of an award ceremony for the best artistic contribution submitted by students in a contest on the subject of the Statue of Liberty and organized by the “Association of French and French speaking teachers of NY; This award honors the winners and participants of the Concours celebrating the Statue of Liberty and Bartholdi sponsored by the American Association of Teachers of French, Metropolitan Chapter, and the Service Culturel de l'Ambassade de France, and the Musee Bartholdi in Colmar. This gift will be accepted by Cinthia Ramirez, who represents the winners and participants of this Concours whom we honor today.

* Presentation by the Monnaie of Paris – the official French minting authority – of a new Euro collectors’ coin program to commemorate the centennial of Fréderic Auguste Bartholdi’s death.
* Tour of the Statue of Liberty from 2 to 3 PM, reopened to the public since August 3rd, 2004.

* Music Tributes with the contribution of the Tarytown Trio and singer Cristina Necula and Baritone Michael Chipman and open-air exhibition on Auguste Bartholdi's life and Buffet;
* Participants can leave the event any time on board of the regular boats.
