The textures assigned to objects
in the texture window [F6] can only be seen
in textured mode [alt+z, sometimes you need ctrl+z
first, then alt+z to recalculate the representation] if the object
have a sufficient number of polygons and/or a high subsurf [buttons
'SubSurf' and 'Subdiv:' in the edit window (F9) second column to the left].
