Ioana was born in Bucharest, Romania, from Romanian parents, today nationalised French. She worked in Stuttgart with the artists Baumeister and Friedlander and continued her work in Paris where she has now a gallery in saint-German. Many of her paintings are kept in private collections as well as a few museums.
Ioana continues to paint actively in Paris and has continuous exhibitions all around Europe.
« Ioana, it is the perfection of the technics, the genius of virtuosity. It is rare, if not impossible, to witness in an artist such a control over the means of expression. One could think that Ioana was born artist, that her natural language, her maternal language is the one of painting because she speaks it with such richness, subtlety, infinite nuances... All these nuances, variations, refinements are so well orchestrated in a complex composition where colour becomes form and form becomes colour and where all the elements of the dynamical construction are articulated between and integrated within themselves, where all the voices are singing, all the moving forces oppose themselves and create a dialogue in an exquisite and admirable manner. »
Eugene Ionesco - 1966
« Ioana. Four vowels, light and sonorous, which are dancing and
jumping on one steady consonant. Ioanas painting is at the same time
colour, music and dance. Spontaneity, joy, and vitality. Everything is moving,
is in the « becoming ». The moving colour is a brilliant background
on which is the drawings joy superimposed.
Signs of aerial lightness are floating on the colourful dreams smoke.
What is the colour of the wind ? asked a child to his mother. The answer
is found in Ioanas paintings. Her painting has the colour of the wind.
In Ioanas Icons, ingenuity and inventions spirit form an alliance
with the colours magic. On old woods, prepared meticulously, the Bibles
Pages, the Prophets laments, the last Judgement, the Saints
faces are evoked through informal pictures where colour becomes the resonance
of the glass windows, the twinkling of the precious stones, the grave
tones of the enamels. Mysterious signs coil and uncoil on rubbed down backgrounds
of those old woods which carry the precious print of revolved times.
Ioana likes small and large formats for her paintings and her icons. Her
exuberance and her freshness open us a door to an enchanted world.
Ioana is the small mischievous sister of Paul Klee. »
Ionel Jianou - 1975
« Happy, three times happy, free from all shackle of nature, who can
confess freely her most precious secrets, the softest, to the accomplice
canvas. »
