AECAWA CONSTITUENT CONFERENCES AND MEMBERSHIP

Like all other Associations, AECAWA members "... are all juridically established Episcopal Conferences of Anglophone West Africa. Membership includes all diocesan bishops and those equivalent to them in law; all coadjutor Bishops auxiliary Bishops and other Bishops who exercise in the AECAWA region a special office assigned to them by the Apostolic See or by the Conferences. Retired Bishops resident in the territory are also members.

The countries making up AECAWA therefore are: Ghana, Liberia, Nigeria, Sierra Leone and The Gambia. Each of these constituent Conferences have their own operational system as established by the law of the Church. However, Sierra Leone and The Gambia constitute a Conference named the Inter-Territorial Catholic Bishops' Conference (ITCABIC). In summary, AECAWA has four constituent Conferences, thus:

INTER-TERRITORIAL CATHOLIC BISHOPS' CONFERENCE (ITCABIC)
President - Rt. Rev. George BIGUZZI, Bishop of Makeni, Sierra Leone

CATHOLIC BISHOPS' CONFERENCE OF NIGERIA (CBCN)
President -Most Rev. John ONAIYEKAN, Archbishop of Abuja.
Vice President - Most Rev. Felix JOB, Archbishop of Ibadan.
Secretary - Rt. Rev. AJOMO, Bishop of Lokoja
Secretary General, Catholic Secretariat of Nigeria - Rev. Fr. Matthew KUKAH

THE OPERATION OF THE ORGANISATION
The highest authority of AECAWA is the Plenary Assembly which consists of all the members of the constituent Episcopal Conferences. Plenary Assemblies are held every three years. In between Plenary Assemblies, the Association is governed by a Standing Committee which is the administrative board of the Association.
