STANDING
COMMITTEE
At Enugu in 1995, the composition of the Standing Committee which hitherto comprised one Bishop from each of the constituent Conferences, the Secretary General of the Association and the three Secretaries General of the three constituent Conferences was changed. The statutes now give the composition
of the Standing Committee as: Since the genesis of the Association, four Presidents have steered the affairs of the Committee, His Eminence, Dominic Cardinal EKANDEM, then Bishop of Ikot Ekpene and later Archbishop of Abuja, both in Nigeria, was the pioneer President who served the two statutorily terms from 1977 to 1983, followed by Archbishop John K. AMISSAH of Cape Coast, Ghana, from 1983 to 1989. He was succeeded by Archbishop Michael K. FRANCIS of Monrovia, Liberia, from 1989 to 1995 and the incumbent president, Rt. Rev. Peter K. SARPONG, bishop of Kumasi, Ghana who is currently serving his second term. The current Vice President is Most Rev. John ONAIYEKAN, Archbishop of Abuja, Nigeria. Members include: Most Rev. Joseph GANDA, Archbishop of Freetown and Bo, Sierra Leone, Most Rev. Anthony OBINNA, Archbishop of Owerri, Nigeria, Rt. Rev. Francis LODONU, Bishop of Ho, Ghana, Rt. Rev. Benedict SEKEY, bishop of Gbarnga, Liberia. In attendance are Rev. Fr, Matthew KUKAH, Secretary General of the Catholic Secretariat of Nigeria (CSN), situated in Lagos, Nigeria: Rev. Msgr. Jonathan ANKRAH, Secretary General GCBC,: Rev. Msgr. Gabriel JUBWE, Secretary General of the Catholic Bishops Conference of Liberia (CABICOL),: Rev. Fr. Louis KOROMA, Secretary General of Inter-territorial Catholic Bishops' Conference (ITCABIC), situated in Freetown, Sierra Leone. The current Secretary to the Standing Committee and the Secretary General of the Association is Rev. Fr. William A. AVENYA. The Standing Committee functions
