The Romanian history (and consecutively its postal history) can be fully understand only in relation to many other countries with which it interacted; to understand Transylvanian history you have to know the history of Austria and Hungary, to understand the Bessarabian history you have to know the Russian and Soviet history, etc. More foreign presences and occupations led also traces in Romanian history: Turkish, Austrian, Austro-Hungarian, Hungarian, Russian, German and so on. Parts of Romanian history are also related to Serbian, Bulgarian, French, English, Italian history. And the list of examples could go on...
