Sorry for the lack of updates recently! I'm desperately trying to find a new look for this site so it takes a lot of time. Thanks to everybody who signed Diana's birthday book, it was sent to her in time for her birthday on August 6 (and not August 3, as I wrote on the birthday page, sorry!).
Diana will be competing at Trophée Lalique and Skate Canada this season for the Grand Prix. But the big news are: she is now training in the United States! Here is a translation of an article published in the German magazine "Pirouette" (some news about her new programs too):
" The Hungarian skater Diana Poth has - by arrangement of her Manager Andras Sallay - moved from Budapest to Rochester and practices now with Callaghan. She has still some difficulties with the english language. She went through her short program to the music of the motion picture "The professional" several times, stumbled in her triple toe-loop/triple toe-loop combination again and again. The free program´s choreography is ready, too, its music is Tschaikowsky´s "Romeo & Juliet"."
Thank you so much to Ralf for the news & translation! By the way, as Diana will now be in the USA most of the time, it will be more difficult for me to contact her but I hope to see her at Trophée Lalique this year!

Diana is going to Worlds! Hungary has two spots for Worlds and Diana and Julya Sebestyen are the two "lucky" ladies who will go there. There was no doubt that Julia Sebestyen would go, but the Hungarian Federation had to chose between Tamara Dorofejev (who skated brilliantly at Europeans) and Diana Poth. It was very close, but there was 5 votes for Diana and 4 for Tamara. So Diana will be in the team! Let's hope she will show her best at Nice!
By the way, here are links to sites about the 2000 World championships (Nice, France, March 27-April 2):

Kelly Behning's site -will include daily reports
Don't forget to watch Diana on:
Wednesday, March 29- qualifying free skating (at 13:45cet on Eurosport)
Friday, March 31-short program (14:00cet on Eurosport)
Saturday, April 1-free program (16:00cet on Eurosport)

I just learnt from Eurosport that Diana's rink in Budapest burnt down in December 1999, which caused Diana and the other skaters training there many problems. Diana has been training in Germany since then.

Diana placed 11th at Europeans. She placed 4th at qualifications but had a bad short program ( she fell on the triple toe- triple toe combination, overrotated the triple flip and double axel). She was 15th going into the free but skated a good program (she was one of the first skaters to skate and was leading for a long time- she was 9th in the free) to move up to 11th place. Julya Sebestyen placed 6th and Tamara Dorofejev placed 9th, both with very good programs. So, it will be hard for the federation to decide what girl will go to Worlds (they only have 2 spots) between Diana and Tamara (because I guess that Julya Sebestyen will go there)! Let's hope Diana can qualify.

Diana won her second National title ahead of Julia Sebestyen! She was second after the short but won the free program, to finish in first place overall. She qualifies for European championships, and will surely be one of the two Hungarian ladies to go to Worlds -except if she skates very badly at Europeans, but that won't happen hopefully!! Good luck, Diana!!

On December 4, Diana competed in her first pro-am competition, the Canadian Open. She placed 7th (last unfortunately...). Read more about her performances here.

Sorry for the lack of updates lately, but I've been really busy! Diana finished 6th at Trophee Lalique and 5th at her second Grand Prix event, Cup of Russia. Not bad!;-) If you want more info, read reviews of her performances here. You can also visit the Trophee Lalique and the Cup of Russia websites. I've added pictures of Diana's new free program (taken by me at Trophee Lalique) to the photo gallery ! Enjoy them!:-)
Diana's next competition will be Hungarian Nationals in January. She just has to be in the top 3 to qualify for Europeans, but for Worlds there will only be 2 Hungarian ladies, so Diana will have to skate well at Europeans in order to qualify. Good luck Diana, we know you can do it!:-)
Thanks to everybody who signed Diana's guestbook. I printed the messages and gave them to her. I'm sure she enjoyed reading them!
There are beautiful pictures of Diana on a Hungarian website at this address:

Take a look at them! She looks great!:-)

Diana will enter her first Grand Prix event of the season, Trophee Lalique, on November 19th! Good luck to her! I will atend this competition so you will get to know everything about Diana's performance! I will also print the messages you left for her in the guestbook and give it to her. If you haven't signed the guestbook yet, this is the right moment to do it!:-)

Diana placed 7th in Finlandia Trophy. Check the results here! It's not a very good beginning of the season for her, but let's hope she'll do much better in Trophee Lalique next month!

Diana placed 5th in the short program in Finlandia Trophy. That's not a great performance, but that's not bad! Let's hope she'll get on the podium in the free!

Diana will enter Finlandia Trophy on October 1st. This is her first competition of the season! Let's hope she'll skate well and gain a lot of confidence from this competition! Finlandia Trophy has a website, but there isn't any info about Diana or even on the other competitors yet. However, be sure to visit it soon to see the results (but I will post the results on the site of course)!

Thanks to everybody who signed Diana's birthday book! She received it and absolutely loved it! If you missed the birthday book, don't worry, I will make another "support project" for Diana soon!

Diana has been training at the ISCC (International Skating Center of Connecticut) in Simsbury, USA this summer. She apparently enjoyed this experience very much! Here is what she told me about it: "I love to be there. This is my favourite place to train. I am training with Viktor Petrenko, Scott Davis, Silvia Fontana and Lucinda Ruh."

Diana has been assigned to two Grand Prix events for next season: Lalique Trophy and Cup of Russia. For more information about Diana's next competitions, check her schedule.

Diana is currently working on two new programs for next season! For her short program, her music will be Gary Moore's Still got the blues for you. For her free program, she has chosen pieces of music from the Gipsy Kings and Santa Esmeralda. They should be two exciting programs!

J. Barry Mittan has written an article about Diana which will be published in Blades on Ice for the Special Skaters of the Century issue.

Diana was in the June issue of Blades on Ice; there was a beautiful coloured picture of her from her long program at Worlds.

There was a picture of Diana in the May/June issue of Patinage Magazine. She was actually promoting the magazine during Worlds! Look at the picture here.

Diana was featured twice in the March/April issue of Patinage Magazine! There was a great picture of her performing her Black Velvet program at Europeans, and she was mentioned in an article about Europeans. Here are the parts of the article which are about Diana:

"Diana Poth had been 20th the last time she competed in Europeans (1997) and 10th in the Worlds in 1998, but showed great improvement here, to be in 6th place going into the free."
"Diana Poth, skating to some of the soundtrack from "Gone with the wind", improved her placing from 6th to 4th, with triple toe/triple toe combination, triple lutz, flip and salchow, and double axel, though she doubled the loop."
