Culture, as they say is the soul of a people. Thus, any action aimed at creating, diffusing and promoting culture is, beyond things, symbols, sounds, representations, images, etc, the pre-eminent expression of the dynamism of a group. Unfortunately, in Africa, culture is not expressed by such dynamism despite the size of cultural riches. This situation stems from several causes: - absence of cultural policies; - lack of financial and material means; - absence of structural organization of cultural entities; - insufficient training, etc. Yet, cultural activities are an indisputable economic and social development venture. Therefore, it is important to expand them to the maximum by undertaking profit-making coordinated actions. The urgency of such a project arises from the gap between abundant african cultural riches and the insignificant valorization of these riches. This is the situation which explains the setting up of the Centre for Creation, Collection, Production and Artistic and Cultural Diffusion (The ZINGUI Centre).
PRESENTATION OF ZINGUI CENTRE The ZINGUI Centre was created thanks to the holding of the 2nd session of the training of cultural entrepreneurs in 1995 in Cotonou, Benin, under the auspices of the French Association, AFRICREATION. During this event, a cameroonian candidature presented by the Ministry of Culture featured for the first time among the 10 prizewinners selected from a total number of 142 candidatures. The Centre for Creation, Collection, Production and Artistic and Cultural Diffusion of Sub-Saharan Africa is a Non Governmental Organization (NGO) which works for the training of creatorss the production and diffusion of the Black culture. The ZINGUI Centre wants to be recognized as an NGO enjoying international prestige and giving expert evaluation on: - training an supervision of groups; - training; - information; - creation; - production; - diffusion; - research. The singular far-reaching nature of the centre makes it a pioneer in the Central Africa sub-region. The ZINGUI Centre is basically a technical structure; therefore, it replies to requests which are forwarded to it in the drafting of training programmes as well as programmes of information, festivals, shows, printing of cultural works, diffusion of cultural and artistic works. In order to implement its programme, the ZINGUI Centre turns to private and public creditors and similar bodies all over the world to benefit from their experience.
OBJECTIVES - Carry out and encourage research on African traditional art and culture; - create, stage and produce shows: theatre, dance, music, etc.; - work for the collection and conservation of African patrimony; -create and maintain dynamic links between promotors, producers, creators and consumers of cultural products throughout the world; - create provisional or permanent animation centers throughout the world to better popularize African culture; - produce audiovisual documents.
TARGETS OF THE PROGRAMME The programme of the ZINGUI Centre involves several categories of people and institutions: - state and private institutions; - creators of artistic and cultural works; - research institutes; - creditors, investors, patrons of the arts, cultural enterprises; - the general public: young people, adults, women and men who are capable of consuming African cultural and artistic products. The ZINGUI Centre is based in Yaounde, capital city of Cameroon, but its ambitions go beyond Cameroon. The very old black culture is part of universal patrimony; therefore, the Centre wants to diffuse, as much as possible, this culture everywhere in the world. The Centre is recognized as an apolitical cultural NGO. It has a Board of Directors and an Executive Bureau. The latter is in charge of the daily implantation of the policy and programme adopted by the Board of Directors. In addition, the Centre works with any other person whose competence is necessary for the achievement of its objectives. |
