New Features in Version 7.6 ============================ SFTP/SSH ======== WS_FTP Pro v7.6 includes support for SFTP over SSH. All features available in the application are available for SFTP/SSH connections where appropriate. New Synchronize utility ======================= The Synchronize utility has been rewritten to be a more functional and user-friendly application. The new sync utility provides the following new features: o Visually compare the sync operation before actually transferring. o Easy configuration screen allows creation of simple or complex synchronization operations. o Location configuration now allows synchronization between local/remote or remote/remote. o Easily configure multiple upload or download exclusions o and more... Dial-up networking support ========================== WS_FTP Pro now supports the selection of a Dial-Up-Networking profile to use with WS_FTP Pro. Multi-part downloads ==================== Multi-part downloads allow WS_FTP Pro to split a large file into multiple parts and use multiple transfer connections to download those parts simultaneously. This feature is useful when downloading large files from an FTP server that limits bandwidth per connection. Improved Per-User installation support ====================================== Per-user installation support is now integrated into the WS_FTP Pro application. There is no need to run a separate installation program to configure per-user installations. WS_FTP Pro Classic and Explorer =============================== Description ----------- WS_FTP Pro is a Windows-based file transfer client application that transfers files between a user's local PC and a remote computer system connected via a modem and telephone lines or by a local-area network. With WS_FTP Pro, users can connect to any remote system that has a valid Internet address and an FTP server program, browse through directories and files, and transfer files between the two systems. In addition, users can create, change, and remove directories and view, execute, rename, or delete files. WS_FTP Pro complies with the Windows sockets (Winsock) standard, allowing you to transfer files between a wide variety of systems, including Windows, OS/2, and UNIX systems. WS_FTP Pro is shipped with two user interfaces: the "Classic" which looks like a standard Windows application, and the Explorer with a user interface that resembles Windows Explorer. WS_FTP Upload Wizard ==================== Description ----------- The Upload Wizard provides a simple interface for uploading files. It can be invoked via integration with Windows Explorer (just right click on file(s) or folder(s) and select upload using the WS_FTP Upload Wizard! You can launch the Upload Wizard as a stand-alone application via the shortcut provided in the WS_FTP Pro program group. WS_FTP Synchronize Utility ========================== Description ----------- The WS_FTP Synchronize Utility is designed to allow you to "mirror" folders and directories between your PC and a remote FTP server. It lets you keep remote sites up-to-date by automatically uploading files which have changed, while deleting files that have been removed from the master directory. This is especially useful for quickly and efficiently updating live web sites from an authoring site, or for mirroring FTP servers. WS_FTP Find Utility =================== Description ----------- The WS_FTP Find Utility allows searching an FTP site for files. This utility is useful when searching for files on a large, complex site. WS_FTP Scripting Utility ========================== Description ----------- The WS_FTP Scripting Utility automates the transfer and management of files through FTP commands such as open, get, and put. For example, you can create a script that instructs WS_FTP Pro to upload certain files, and then use a scheduling program to run the script at the same time each day or week. Script lines that start with ';' are comments and are ignored by the command processor. WS_FTP Scheduler Utility ========================== Description ----------- The WS_FTP Scheduler Utility is an interface to Windows Scheduler that allows you to schedule time consuming or reoccurring tasks to be executed automatically. WS_FTP Browser Integration Utility ================================== Description ----------- Browser Integration allows you to use WS_FTP Pro to download files from a web browser. With this feature, if you select a download file in your web browser (provided the download file has an FTP URL), the download will be processed by WS_FTP Pro. Installing (All Applications) ============================= If you purchased a WS_FTP Pro CD-ROM, insert the CD in a drive. If the CD does not automatically display a "Welcome" screen, click the Windows Start button and select Run. Enter the CD-ROM drive letter followed by autorun.exe. For example, D:\autorun.exe. Follow the instructions on your screen. If you downloaded WS_FTP Pro from the Internet, run the downloaded application, ftpproec.exe. Follow the instructions on your screen. Uninstalling (All Applications) =============================== The uninstall function removes all files associated with WS_FTP Pro from your PC, including your configured sites. It also removes the WS_FTP Pro Explorer icon from your desktop. To uninstall WS_FTP Pro, you can use the Uninstall application that is installed when you install the product. To do so, click the Start button, select WS_FTP Pro, and then select Uninstall WS_FTP Pro. Updates to the User's Guide =========================== Additions to the site INI file: Automatic connection retry timer -------------------------------- We added a timer to the automatic retry; the default is to wait 30 seconds between retries. To change this option, you must add/modify the following line in the site's INI file: RETRYDELAY=#seconds Automatic re-connect option --------------------------- We added an option to automatically re-connect to a site when a command is issued on a closed connection. This option is "on" by default. If you wish to disable this option, you must add the following value in the site's section of the INI file: AUTORECONNECT=0 Debug Logging Options --------------------- Add time/date stamps to each log message in the log window/file by adding the following line to the wsftp_options.ini file location in the "per-user" Application Data directory. TimeStampLogs=1 Enable diagnostic logging for more diagnostic information in the log window/file. This information may be requested by a tech support specialist in order to resolve an issue. The enable this feature add the following line to the wsftp_options.ini file location in the "per-user" Application Data directory. DiagnosticLogs=1 Uploads/Download getting to 100% and not completing --------------------------------------------------- If you are having this problem, you may want to enable one or both of the options below in the site profile ini file. The options are: UploadStatDelay=60 DownloadStatDelay=60 The value for these options is expected to be seconds. This option informs the application to send a STAT command on the command channel during transfers. This keeps the command channel active during long transfers. Sounds ------ Sounds are now completely handled through the Windows sounds settings from the Windows Control Panel. To change or remove a sound, go to the Control Panel, select the Sounds icon, and then edit the appropriate event.
