Some of my friends call me a 'Python fanatic'. It's true that after many years of dabbling in various programming languages with various degrees of success, I've found in Python (and its helpful online community) a tool that makes me comfortable, more productive, and helps me inprove my feeble skills. And I do sometimes badger some of my friends about it :-)

Well, I'm not going to do that here : if you like programming but have never tried Python yet, don't walk, run to www.python.org. Everything you need is up there.

If you already know the language you might want to look into some of my homemade scripts below. I didn't put them online as programming style examples (I'm a rank amateur at this :), but because I created each of them to do something I needed, and still use them all. Maybe they can be useful to you, too.

PySCP

PySCP is for Windows (9x/NT) workstations only. It uses Simon Thattam's PSCP command-line utility to provide an FTP-like console client, making it easier to securely exchange files with a Unix SSH server.

MMyW

MMyW (Make My Web) is a simple 'HTML processor' that makes it easier to create and maintain consistent Web pages across a site. I use it, of course, to generate theses pages. If you'd like to know why I made yet another one when dozens already exist, just read on...

HTML_Cal

HTML_Cal is based on the standard library module 'calendar.py'. It outputs the same monthly calendar (with week numbers), but with a twist : every value (month name, day & week number etc.) has a unique 'pseudo-HTML-tag' associated to it. In most browsers these invalid tags remain invisible ; it is then very easy to modify such a page from another program, and change one of these pseudo-tags into a valid http link for a particular date (day, week, month). I use it to quickly access my network statistics. This script is so simple there is no separate page for it, just the colorized code.

TT (Teleport To...)

TT is also for Windows users of the die-hard variety who still use "DOS boxes" a lot. 'Teleport To...' is a simple but effective combination of a DOS batch file and a Python script that has a function similar to the old "NCD" utility : change drives and directories quickly and with minimal typing... Again no separate page, everything is packaged into the code.
