What you can and can't say on CB during an assistance
In case of accident : the things to say :
-
Where it is exactly.
-
Can other cars continue racing.
-
Are the pilots blocked in.
-
Is the car burning, or in a dangerous situation.
-
Are there injured people.
-
Does the crew abandon.
The things we don't care :
-
Is a spectator drunk (we already knew, or at least supposed it !).
-
Has a tree been cut by the car.
-
Is the car in bad conditions (when it runs, we don't care).
Things you mustn't tell at all :
-
You are happy.
-
You don't know the time.
-
You're tired (we're also on our posts since 6:00 this morning, we're as
tired as you !)
-
A spectator has been hitten by a car (it is his problem, he only had to
be careful !)
Well, I have written this ? No, of course, an injured spectator must be
treated as if he was a normal person !
Just finish him.
Things we'd like to never hear again :
-
"What's the time ?" - The answer is never the same.
-
"Post 4 for post 3, have you got coffee ? We've finished our bottle !"
- There will be a proud little genius to say that he didn't think you could
drink anything else than wine.
-
"Well, I get bored with it, will anybody mind if I leave ?" - We've heard
it too often, and it often finishes bad. We force nobody to come, but when
you've come you must stay.
-
"Hey, the Subaru number 58 has made a lovely turn in front of me ! That's
beautiful !" - We don't care, it won't make any spectacle in front of us...
-
(on the 27 channel) "Does anybody know which QRG
we work on ?" - We've said it at least five or six times since this morning
!
-
"Apollo for Gégé, could you help me to fix my TOS
?" - We'd like people who come to come with a CBset that works...
And don't get angry if the answer is : "I'd like to know if the car start,
so SHUT UP !"
And please avoid to put on waves techno, dance, rap, opera or any song
from Celine Dion.
Rallies I saw
1996
5th rally "Terres du Désert"
There we had our first problem : whithout respecting the closed road, a
"civil" car came on the track. Fortunately it went out two hundreds meters
further, but five seconds later a "Visa Mille pistes" would have hurted
it at a 100 mph speed...
15th Drôme rally "Paul Friedman"
1997
6th rally "Terres du Diois"
16th Drôme rally "Paul Friedman"
St-Marcellin rally - finals of France rally championship
This rally was the poorest we saw. Organisation was wrongly done - or wasn't
done, we don't exactly know ! Some intendents seemed to think we were slaves
and ordered us to do things that aren't ours - like placing spectators.
One of the intendents, who was totally mad, wanted to place spectators
with a big hammer. About one hundred thousands spectators came - five or
six hundreds in my post - and were often more interested in beer and wine
than in rally. Spectators were drunk and put gates nearer and nearer from
the road. As a result, eight spectators were injured, including one in
our special part, who had his leg broken by a M3 ; two special parts were
canceled, and our one was near to be canceled too... See Photos.
1998
In 1998, we've refused, because we were too busy (we don't do only rallies
! We have done three rallies and fourteen assistance this year),
to assist the Ardèche rally - in the beginning of October. Other
cibists were found, and the rally took place ; a 106 Maxi jumped out the
road and killed two spectators, which weren't well placed. Just to remember
that the tragedy is never far in rally.
