THE GALLERY

The Gallery Veillon was created in 1972 by Mr Richard Veillon. Situated in the superb "Chateau du Sol Pleureur (Willow)," we represent 28 emerging, mid career, and established artists. Exhibited artists include Hubert de Methylene, Pierre Maroys, Marc El Nini, Jose M.Da Silveira and Blidan. We sponsor 10 solo shows and two group shows per year with an average display time of 4 weeks. We are open all year. Our clientele is composed of 60% private collectors and 40% corporate collectors. Our overall prices range from $1,500 to $500,000 with most work sold at $5,000 to $20,000.

We have created this site to educate a new generation of art students and potential buyers about painters who will become the Gaughin, Van Gogh, Picasso, Matisse, etc... of the twenty first century. Some of our painters such as Maroys and Da Silveira have already earned enough recognition for creating a new school of painting. Every year, we focus on a different painter or style which is revolutionnary and worth further exploration.

For the years 1998-1999 our focus will be on the Formist school of painting created by Da Silveira (followed by Maroys.)

FORMISM

Although difficult to describe a new school of painting, it is even more so when its creator refuses to recognize its existence. Jose M. Da Silveira continues to be surprised that an entire generation of young artists are attempting to follow his example. However, art critics throughout France and Europe as well as here, at the Gallerie Veillon have come to recognize Formism as one of the foremost upcoming schools of painting for the 21st Century.

Formism, also known as Naive Surrealism, combines form and color to create a three dimensional image on the canvas. The canvas has no limit, no boundary. Poetic figures existing only in the symbolic world of the painter's imagination reach out to us with their message of questioning serenity. The colors and images are, powerful but delicate. Da Silveira describes his work as inspired: "I cannot control my art. Images are sent to me in my dreams and I reproduce this world which exists only in my mind."

Bacchus, a recent work by Da Silveira, from the Musical Winds Collection, clearly represents the formist vision. The mythological figure appears to be flying in a sea of gold, the canvas has no boundary, it is another world, a world of poetry and beauty.

ABOUT DA SILVEIRA

Jose M. Da Silveira was discovered at the age of sixteen by the late celebrated art critic, Miguel Nuno. Since that time Jose's work has found its way into some of Europe's most celebrated art collections and has won a devoted following throughout Europe.

Inspired by the celebrated painters of his beloved Provence, both his colors and images are reminiscent of this magical region. The force and mysticism of his vision comes from his tumultuous early years in Mozambique and Portugal, surrounded by two bloody civil wars.

Da Silveira lives, dreams and breathes his painting. His soul is beared to his spectator in his images for those able to discover the mystery.
