Bug fix:
- two instances of the Browser were launched when you pressed F1.
- bug when you clicked 'Help' in the 'Extract' dialog after an 'Extract to ...' from the explorer.
- the Directories options weren't recorded in the registry when you clicked OK.
Better help behaviour.
Added a 'Select All' command.

Bug fix:
- the 'Shell Extension' options were not correctly set at the first launch of Jarwin.
Possibility to edit or view the files in an archive.
Possibility to extract all files in an archive without opening it.
Same thing as above but from the context menu (Extract to ...).
In the Explorer, you can add files to an archive by dropping files on it.
Auto-refresh of view when in a disk.
Added DMF format (1714Kb) for spanning archives.
Possibility to access Help with F1.

What is it ?

Jarwin is a Windows graphical user interface for the 32 bits version of the compression engine Jar1.02 by ARJ Software. It doesn't implement all Jar functions, but it provides with an easy way to access the basic functions of this soft which is at present the most powerful one (at least it's better than RAR, not even mentionning Winzip). And I can prove it:

Test files: Microsoft Visual C++ 1.52 (462 files and directories of 18,806,153 bytes, mixing executables, dll, object and text files).
Computer: Pentium100, 24 Mb RAM, no external cache.

Amazing, isn't it?

Well in fact, I've got nothing to do with this, so let's rather talk about Jarwin.

So here are the most important functionalities of Jarwin (not mentionning the obvious functions of compression and extraction):

Weeping or formatting of floppy disks.
possibility to compress or extract files with their partial path (if you want to compress or extract the directory Foo, it's really Foo that you'll get and not \Windows\My Documents\Foo or anything else).
use of a file list: gather in a list the files that you can find anywhere on your drives or in an archive and compress it or extract it at the same time.
computes the size of the files that you extract or compress.
generates a files list: instead of really extracting or compressing your files, you can generate a file that contains all the files that you selected and that you can use with Jar to execute commands that Jarwin doesn't support..
possibility to edit the Jar command line generated by Jarwin.

Jarwin uses Winrar look. If you want a Winzip-like GUI and chapter support you can fetch WinJar (it should be there).

You can get Jarwin here: jarwin1.3.1.zip.

Obviously, you must install Jar1.02 before using Jarwin. You need also mfc42.dll and msvcrt.dll (check your system directory or download them here).

Install

Unzip jarwin1.3.1.zip in the directory Jarwin (for instance) and that's all.

Launching

Click-click.

At first lauching, you'll be asked to enter the Jar directory, so it's better if it is already installed (although it isn't strictly necessary).

Use

The use of Jarwin tries to be as intuitive as possible (thanks to a powerful artificial intelligence engine). Normally 2 ou 3 clicks should be enough to use the most common functions because Jarwin sets the options that best fit your needs. Anyway a glimpse at the file Manual.htm could help, should it only be to not let aside some interesting functions (think of using the right button).

This shell extension shows you in the context menu the size of the selected directories and the free space in the selected drive.

CopyPath 1.1

This shell extension lets you copy paths of files in the Explorer to the clipboard. Includes an option to use \\ as directory separator, which can be useful for C programmers.
