Saintes flying club.

Saintes is a charming town in the district of Charente Maritime, about 4 hours from Paris on the motorway (the A10 towards Bordeaux), or about 3 ½ hours by train (TGV, Angoulême or Niort lines). The sun shines nearly 300 days a year which means we often have good conditions for flying.

The flying club offers visitors the chance to fly planes, gliders (including aerobatic flying), and model aircraft.

AIRPLANES :

There are two « Jodels » D112 and D113 for the school (basic flying instruction), two DR400 for the navigation.

A CAP 10 is occasionally available to the club for demonstrating and teaching aerobatics.

Flying instruction is led by a former navy fighter pilot, assisted by 2 volunteer instructors. At Saintes, you can therefore fly 7 days a week.

GLIDING :

Gliders are available 7 days a week during the summer.

There is one DR400/180R for towing.

There are 3 twin-seat gliders and 4 single-seaters.

Between March and September , it is frequently possible to fly (glide) up to 300-500 Km from Saintes.

Our prices are reasonable and several different tariffs are available depending on the date of your visit to Saintes.

MODEL AIRCRAFT :

Our flying club is one of the most popular in France.

You can fly radio-controlled aircraft as well as free flight models.

Radio-control : a grass area is available. Your aircraft can take off far away from inhabited areas. Moreover our club is specialised in free flight models. Wide and clear grass areas are available for this activity.

ACCOMODATION :

A dormitory (8 beds maximum), sheets, blankets are provided for the modest sum of 5€ per night.

You may also come with your tent or your caravan and enjoy camping. The camping area is very popular in the summer. Four showers are available.

You may also use our well-equipped kitchen, the washing-machine and our refrigerators. In the evening you may enjoy a drink at the bar, watch TV, play table-football or go down town.

Besides, you can stay in the hotels or guest houses located near the airfield.

AN ATTRACTIVE AREA :

In Saintes, you can easily enjoy a holiday with your family as well as fly different kinds of aircraft in a very pleasant area. And if you find it tiring you may enjoy other activities.

· Have a siesta in the shade of our garden.

· Go to the beach in Royan or in Ré and Oléron islands.

· Visit some lovely towns such as La Rochelle, Rochefort or Niort.

· Visit the Romanesque churches of Saintonge.

· Go on boat trips (Fort Boyard, Aix Island, Madame Island and trips on the river Charente).

· Visit the cellars in COGNAC.

· Go to the Futuroscope in Poitiers.
