Presentation and life of the association

    History.
    Struggle For Justice has been created in 1999 to support Odell barnes Jr, young afro american who received a death penalty sentence in 1991 at Huntsville (TX) for a crime he didn't commit.
    He has beeen executed on the 1st of March 2000 when he was about to be 32.
    In respect of his memory, Struggle For Justice try to enforce struggle against death penalty in the US and particularly in Texas using partnership with texan abolitionnist groups.

    Who are we?
    An association under the french status "loi 1901", opened to everyone without political or religious links.

    Our actions briefly
    We are working with abolitionnist texas lawyers (some have defended Odell), to obtain a moratorium in Texas, this is the Moratorium Movement Project.
    We support the Texas Innocent Project which will contribute to investigations directed by students in law for prisonners in the death row or who received a life sentence.
    We contribute to investigations that are necessary to reopen files of somes who received a death sentence:
    1. mentally sick ;
    2. minor when the crime was committed ;
    3. who received a trial which has been intentionally faked ;
    4. whom guilt is not clearly established.

      NORWAY
      Email: Norway Committee For The Nobel Price
      Explain why it is necessary that she gets the price for our struggle.
    5. The association publishes the DEATH/LIFE LIST of the main companies supporting George W. Bush and his barbarism on one side, and alternative companies on the other.

      Exemple: Dell and Compaq are major contributors to the Governor's campaign fund and we're asking our supporters worldwide to buy computers from companies in states that do not have a death penalty, such as GAteway 2000 in Iowa and SAG in Massachussetts.

      The death list reads as follows:

      Compaq
      Dell
      AT&T
      Coca-Cola
      Fina
      Texas Instruments
      Pepsico Inc.
      Fruit of the Loom
      South West Airlines
      Perrier
      Tupperware
      Texaco
      Shell
      Chrysler
      Ford
      General Motors

      We call this action "preferential purchase" or "first refusal". We're also asking employees and managers of these companies to do everything they can to make Bush stop executions and protest against the unfair nature of the Texas Death Penalty.
    6. A ways back Canadian Citizens Against the Death Penalty started a tourism boycott of Texas . The TCADP continues to promote that boycott. As of the end of August, we have had 231 executions in Texas since the death penalty was resumed in 1982. 144 of those executions have occurred under Gov. George W. Bush. This year we are up to 32 executions and 8 more are scheduled before the end of the year, which will make a new record for Texas.

      We encourage you to contact as many people and organizations as you can and ask them to support the boycott. Individuals can email or fax the Texas Chambers of Commerce listed below and tell them that they will be unable to visit their city as a tourist until the executions in the state are stopped.

      This is something that people can do as individuals. You don't have to wait for a corporation or government entity to act. Please spread the word to others who may be supportive.
