I have a chinchilla named SPIROU. He's a standard grey male and he's 3-years-old now. He's marvelous - but very greedy and stubborn ! Here you'll find his picture and a picture of his cage.

Whoever wants to own a chinchilla must know certain things about their behaviour and life style. Here are some tips coming from my own experience - not long and not abundant, but, er, here it is anyway.

First you'll have to make room in your life and heart, because a chinchilla needs a lot of attention and love.



Place in the cage of your chinchilla a little house, so it could rest peacefully.



Sometimes your chinchilla will squeak : sort of "hu-hu-hu-hu" when it wants something (injunction) ; kind of cough when it is disturbed or dreaming. DON'T PANIC !!! I know it's worrying, but normal. It also produces a "wur" when you annoy it or make it a wrong-placed fuss.



Each morning I give Spirou a Kellog's Corn Flake - he adores it ! Rarely I replace it by a Kellog's Special K or Honey Nut Kellog's Corn Flake.



Be sure the teeths of your chinchilla aren't too long - place in its cage some woodpieces that it will surely eat !



Prefer a cage that's not too low because chinchillas love climbing. Put some boards and it will go to the top !



Spirou doesn't like to be caught but I think there's no general rule. But he LOVES to be fussed, on his head, behind his ears, under his neck, on his buddy, and also on the top of his nose !
