Welcome to this web site dedicated to the Sengwer Indigenous Peoples of
Kenya. The Sengwer are minority, unrecognised, marginalised and
discriminated Hunter-Gatherer Indigenous Peoples of Kenya. It is 38 years since
Kenya got independence and the community is still fighting for survival and for
its legal recognition as a separate and distinct ethnic group.
Hunter-gatherer communities in Kenya are the most suffering. Their land happens
to be the most fertile with adequate rainfall throughout the year. This
attracted white settlers and current black settlers to this land. The
hunter-gatherer communities were and are still being displaced and evicted from
their own ancestral land. This has led to dispersion, assimilation of these
communities who have become minorities in their own ancestral land.
This site is supported by the Sengwer Indigenous
Development Project (SIDP). Our aim is to provide information about our current situation and raise
attention to our difficulties.
Thank you for your attention and do not hesitate to contact us for any question.
