| The
population of the Sengwer peoples is estimated to be about 60 000. In the
past, some of them have been assimilated by other communities among whom:
Pokot, Marakwet, Keiyo, Nandi, Tugen, Luhya, Maasai, Kipsigis and Sabaot. Sengwer peoples used to live in the forest but the government and members of the Marakwet community have been burning the houses of the Sengwer living in the forest to expulse them out of it. However, there are still Sengwer peoples living in the forest. They are found in the Embobut forest in Marakwet district and their population is about 5000. |
