I have a modest system; but one that I'm very happy with. I have about $5,000 invested in the system. Yamaha makes some extremely fine AV Receivers! I currently have the RX-V690. To anyone out there who has not invested in a system yet, I would recommend that you purchase a Yamaha AV Receiver as the heart of your theater. The Pro-Logic Decoding is superb! Of course, you could go digital with the new 3090 :-) I have Difinitive Technology BP8 Mains, Definitive Technology C1 Center Channel Speaker, Optimus Pro-LX5 Dipole Surrounds, And an Audio Source SW-4 12 inch 150 Watt Active Sub Woofer. For video I have a Sony MDP-455 Laser Disc Player, a Mitsubishi HS-U660 VCR and a Fisher Hi-Fi VCR. For audio, I have a Marantz CD player, a Sony CD player, a Sony Tape Deck, and a Sony Equalizer. For now I'm happy with what I have but I'm eventually going to go Digital. When I do this, I'll buy another pair of Definitve Speakers for my Rear Effects and use my LX-5's for the Front Effects. My T.V. and VCR are long-since past their Sell-By date ... Having listened to a Sony ProLogic TV recently, I have caught the bug and am interested enough to research the matter still further. I am seriously considering purchasing a NICAM Video Recorder WITH ... EITHER: Dolby ProLogic TV OR: NICAM T.V. and putting together or purchasing a "Home Theater" as you describe it (or Home Theatre as we spell it - that's a very poor joke!). I currently enjoy quality Hi-Fi and good Stereo Reproduction and would like to have the option of Home Theater in my new flat. My Integrated Stereo Amp - ARCAM Delta 60 - is a few years old, but may still be too good to junk - ARCAM (A&RCAMbridge being a U.K. specialist Hi-Fi Manufacturer that you may or may not have heard of) - but (for the right system) I may have to Trade it in because there may not be enough room to have separate Hi-Fi (Stereo) and Home Theater in the flat ! Comments: I am an avid Home Theater enthusiast always looking for new information to improve my total system. I just upgraded my laser disk player to a Dolby Digital (AC3) model. Now I would like to get a Dolby Digital decoder. Thats a big problem as they are still expensive! The other problem is knowing what to buy. I would like a decoder I could connect to my system and not have to get rid of my Yamaha DSP1000. There are a couple of models,1 from Pioneer and 1 from Marantz, that would be nice, so we will have to see how the budget works out. Anyway, if you get to read this and feel like replying that will be nice. |
