Allied Starting Side Panzer General Interface
Allied
Starting Side Panzer General Interface 1.1
Author: Joseph

Contains:
Shp Images
Rewritten Panzer.exe vz. 1.2
An ever greater number of scenarios are created that starting side is not
Axis as in Original PG,
but starts Allies. For good playing with Allied starting side I redrew
the shp images which were
involved in it. The largest part of new interface are new converted animations.
I must thank Steve
Farrell he made me program for easy doing it, so I didnt need to do it
some texts in panzer.exe too.
This files can be used just for playing of scenarios, where
starts allies. So then scenarios
neednt use own shp files and can be less large. This interface
is especially good for Allied core
campaigns, for example Red Storm Rising or Cowboy Attack from Gerold Treitler.
This is the cause
of my effort for campaigns it was worth doing.
Of course, my new interface can be used in shorter version, without animations
shp files and
panzer.exe, but then the feel from playing PG is not so good.
Version 1.1.
Updated panzer.exe - nupl accordning panzequp.eqp from Allied general.

New
PG Interface
Author: Peter
Sznaikart
As many of you Im a big fan of the original Panzer General game.
I've been playing it ever since it
came out on Sony Playstation. After I got my own PC I bought the
computer version of the game,
and soon after started change lots of things about it. One thing
that I did not like about
the original
SSI Interface design, it was too colorful ( don't ask me why ), but
at any rate I decided to change it.
Here's the outcome..

Installation: Place all the files in the Dat subdirectory
Disclaimer: Before you try to do anything with these files,
make sure you back up your previous
ones.
P.S. Also included are 3 unit icons of Tiger, Royal Tiger and Panther..
they are not the original
size ( 60x50) but they work just as well, not to
mention they look alot better than the originals.
( You can use them by using fred
chlandas SHP Editor)
Special thanks to all the people who designed the editors that made
playing the game that much
better..
This guide is designed to evaluate the various scenarios of the SSI
computer wargame
Panzer General. Each scenario will be evaluated as to its "fairness"
in regards to chances
of winning with either the Allied side or the Axis.

What does PGpaste?
----------------------------
The program generates savegames for the game Panzer General DOS Version 1.2.......
The program enables you to read in multiple savegames, select parts of
the associated maps,
including units, towns etc., and put these together to construct
a new savegame.The program
generates then a savegame file game.svX, as well as a scenario file
game0XX.scn and map-
files mapXX.set, and mapXX.stm (X in
[0-9]) to which this savegame refers.
What
can you do with PGpaste
------------------------------------------
Many things. For example:
- Starting with a savegame with a large map, you can select a region
of interest on this map, and
turn it into a separate savegame. For instance, starting from the Balkan
scenario, you could
select "Greece" as a new savegame, which could then be loaded into
PG.
- You can devise maps which are larger than the maximum map-size
which PG accepts.
For instance, game with a map of size 121*51 hexes can be simulated by
pasting together two
maps of size 61*51. Altough PG cannot handle a map of this
size, it could handle any selection
of the combined map which does not exceed 67*51 hexes. With
PGpaste you can make such a
selection and turn it into a savegame. It can then be loaded into PG, played,
saved, and pasted
back into the original pair of games. Subsequently you can select
another part of the combined
map and repeat the above steps.

DEXTER'S EQUIPMENT FILE v1.0 release:
Panzer General I is a great game,but....SSI tryied to make the "perfect"
WW2 strategy game, but
we all know that's imposible. The "major" errors of PGI i think are
in the equipment file.The
original equipment file had pretty strange values for some units,
the only reason i can see for this
being that SSI tryied to make a more enjoyable game, loosing touch with
real warfare.
Before you try my version, please read these explanations:
- In real war, the pedestrian infantry was
extremely slow compared to any other unit. For example,
the slowest tank could still move with20-25 kmph and the infantry with
maximum 5 kmph,so at lest
4 times slower. To compare with PG data, the infantry moves with 2-3 hexes
and the slowest tanks
with 3-4 hexes.
- In PG appear
the APC's(Armored Personal Carriers) but they are strangely used(as organic
transports). In real war the infantry units witch had APC's used them as
a combat weapon (infantry
support) - they didn't just used them to the front line and then got out
to fight on foot.
- The engeneers
were highly specialized infantry units which wereused mainly for bridging
,destroying
forts, building(repairing) airports, etc. All engeneers units had
organic transports,not just trucks but
even especially designed APC's.
- The towed guns had almost all organic transports (mainly trucks).
- The anti-aircraft and air defense units
were not independed. They were not supposed to fight for
themselfs or chase enemy aircraft, they were assigned to other fighting
units or major objectives
(which were targets for enemy air attacks).
- The aircrafts were almost all better that
the ones in PG. The only way in wich real aircraft were
worst than PG aircraft is the ammo load. For example in PG an aircraft
could engage 5-6,even 10
targets without returning for a rearming, wich is far from reality.A fighter
group,when encountering a
enemy aircraft group would engage until almost out of ammo,so it
usually wouldn't have enough
ammo for another engagement. The bombers dropped all their payload on the
targeted objectives,or
even on the field,if engaged by enemy fighters.
- No aircrafts were so easy to shoot
down. The air war was more balanced , both sides usually had
some aircraft to engage the enemy ,not like PG were the germans cleared
the skies in 5-6 turns.
Also the ground-air attack was only defensive, and not quite so effective(even
a heavy defended
target could not destroy more than 10% of the enemy planes wich engaged
it).
- Forts
were usually pretty easy destroyed by a good infantry unit in PG
,wich was not the case in real
war.Any major fortified position with big caliber guns would take quite
a few attackers with it,so the
forts are,in this equipment file ,more serios targets.
Any comments
,suggestions
would
be appreciated,

Pistol Ionut Equipment file for Rommel´s
Campaign:
.
|
|
installation
- You
must copy the file "ionut01.exe" in the root directory for Rommel
Campaign for instance C:\PG\ Rommel where
you got installed Rommel
Campaign with previous Tortoise Page Rommel Campaign Installation
zip
- Run
the file and a new subfolder will be automatically created. For
instance C:\ PG \ ROMMEL\IONUT
-
Here
the important advantage: You CAN SHARE A SINGLE INSTALLATION
of your PG program...for Rommel Campaing and the equipment
modified
Rommel campaign. When you want to launch the Original Gerold´s Rommel
Campaign..just run the PG.bat file :
C:\ PG \ ROMMEL\Rommel.bat
but if you want to play the modified one..then launch the Game from
C:\ PG \ROMMEL\Ionut\ionut01.bat
- If
your System Crash while playing...you will find the original game
files... inside Sub-Folders named "Bak" (if they exist, it doesnt
means that
you have lost anything...in fact they exist in order
to protect you against
game files loses.
