Computer sound and music
For a very long time I have been fascinated by all
the strange noise that a computer can produce. I am fond of computer
games music, especially the one you can hear on the good old C64, Atari
ST or SNES ! To hear some of them, you can have a look at Zsid
and SC68 which let you emulate these old fashioned computers sound chip.
I have started a computer music project called
WaveMage. The goal of WaveMage is to let a musician to build a modular
synthesizer on his computer and then to pilot it via a MIDI keyboard ,
a sequencer, or simply by playing a real instrument. This is not finished
yet though ...
Computing
I am also fond of computing in general. I have been
coding since I am 10 (on a ZX81), and never got tired since then (never
for a long time at least ;)
I made, in no special order, a chess game (it
sometimes beat me, but I am a very bad player :), a video game (Quick the
Thunder Rabbit on Amiga, developped with my own assembler), a Z-code compiler
(a language of my invention, with a virtuall machine of my invention too),
a 3D elastic surface animation program, some demos on Atari ST (for those
rare people who heard about demos, I made the mega-tridi demo in the European
Demos) ... I'll put some links sometimes !
I am now programming mainly under Linux environment.
Zsid and WaveMage are using the excellent Fast
Light Tool Kit, a portable GUI interface, in which I try to bring some
contribution. In general I feel very concerned by the Free Software movement
and would like to participate as much as possible to it (altough I find
it hard to find time !).
Climbing, skating
Well, altough I am not exactly what we could call
a very sportive guy, it is very difficult to resist to the temptation of
going climbing in the wonderful Calanque (south of Marseille). Basically,
altough I try to improve (probably not hard enough, some would say :),
I don't seem to progress at all !! But that does not matter, I love it
anyway.
I also recently started again to do skating.
I used to skate when I was younger, and now that some of my friends
in Paris got very fond of skating (Mr Bee, Ben, RV & cie !) I decided
to try to catch them up (currently they do not believe me at all that
I already skated before, how disapointing it is !!) Skating in Paris is
really nice, it is a really fast way go from one point to another, and
you discover many place that you would usually not see. I want to try skating
in Marseille, but that might be a little bit harder because it is not exactly
what one might call err ... flat ...
Music
I also listen to normal music ! Any style of music
is fine for me, from classical to techno (not at the same time though),
and no stupid variety music thanks ... I don't play any instrument and
actually I think I am not gifted at all for that, too bad !
